What NYC Taught Me About Direct Communication in Global Workplaces

đŸŽ¶ “I wanna wake up in that city that doesn’t sleep
” Frank Sinatra’s voice still rings in my head.

That was my dream: to experience New York City for myself.

It’s a global hub. It’s one of the most diverse, fast-paced, and fascinating cities in the world. I grew up watching movies and TV shows set in NYC
and I was hooked.

But what really struck me when I got there?
👉 The direct communication style.

In New York, I felt like I could be myself.

People say what they mean. You don’t have to read between the lines. They express disagreement openly
and that’s normal.

For them, being direct is efficient and time-saving.

This taught me a lot about cultural communication.
✅ You can be direct and polite.
✅ You can be clear without being rude.
✅ You can adjust your style to avoid misunderstandings.

🌍 Cultural awareness is key – especially in global workplaces.

💬 Now your turn: How do you feel about direct communication? Do you like it – or find it uncomfortable?
Share your thoughts. I’d love to hear them!

P.S. I would’ve shared a photo of me in Times Square (it captures the city that doesn’t sleep perfectly)
but my little one decided to be in every single photo! 😊
