“Is her keyboard stuck on the question mark key?” That’s what I thought when I received an email ending with: “…??????????”
It’s hard to know how to read it. Is it urgent? Is the sender upset? Or just excited?
Multiple question marks are used to add emotion or emphasis. But in professional emails they just create confusion.
Kind of pressing the elevator button over and over again.
It doesn’t make it arrive any faster, right?
💡 Here are my pro tips:
✔ One question mark is enough. It does the job.
✔ Want emphasis? Rephrase your question:
“Could you please clarify your point?”
✔ Want urgency? Use strong but polite language:
“I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide this information urgently.”
What about you?
Have you seen this in emails before? How did you interpret it?
