Why You Should Stop Using “As Per My Last Email” in Follow-Ups

2 reasons why “As per my last email…” needs to be buried. RIP 🪦

Follow-up emails are tricky. Sometimes you want to scream, “DID YOU SEE MY EMAIL?!”

But instead, you go with:
“As per my last email…”
Sounds polite, right?

Not really.

Here’s why that phrase should rest in peace:

👉 It feels dismissive.
Like you’re saying, “Didn’t you read what I already wrote?”

👉 It sounds accusatory.
Kind of like, “I already told you this.”

Even if that’s not your intention,
It might feel like you’re telling them they did something wrong.
And that never helps.

Tone is everything in follow-ups.
Here’s my go-to trick:
🧩 “I sent the message below and didn’t hear back. So, I’m resending it in case it didn’t go through.”

It’s polite. It saves face. And it keeps the conversation moving forward.

💬 What’s the most polite (or awkward!) follow-up you’ve ever sent—or received?
